Geogrids

1. Asphalt reinforcement Geogrids
2. Stabilized earth Geogrids

Geogrids are a type of Geosynthetic sheets which are made of Polyester, Polyethylene or a compound of these or similar materials and they are produced in different thickness and dimensions in reticular sheets. Due to high tensile strength and significant locking with soil and asphalt, these sheets are suitable for reinforcements.

1. Asphalt reinforcement Geogrids
As the tensile strength of the asphalt is significantly lower than its strength in different temperatures, and this can cause major destructions, so, reinforcing the asphalt by Geogrids with their network structure, causes better tensile properties.

Features and advantages of asphalt reinforcement Geogrids:
- Prevention of Reflective Cracks
- Good adhesion to asphalt through the needle and coated texture
- preventing development of cracks in roads surface from the old asphalt to the new
- Reduction of long-term deformation (creep)
- Ease installation
- Minimum grooved asphalt in large deformations
- Improvement of cyclic properties that may cause fatigue
- keeping cracked parts Integrated
- Resistance to high temperatures
- Increasing the pavement life and reducing the maintenance costs
- Reducing thickness of the asphalt coating
- Fine and uniformly distribution of the loads over a wide area due to their network structure
- Requires less bitumen in single coat of road pavement (maximum 5/0 liters per square meter)

Applications of asphalt reinforcement Geogrids:
- Reinforcement of asphalt highways, urban roads and intercity roads
- Reinforcement of the main and sub band of the airports
- Reinforcement of the asphalt coatings on steel and concrete bridges
- Reinforcing asphalt of decks of jetties and ports
- Used in eroded and recycled asphalts

2. Stabilized earth Geogrids
As the concrete is weak in tensile strength and for compensation steel is used, Geogrids can be used to grade the soil to tensile forces. Stabilized earth geogrids are divides into two groups of uniaxial and biaxial. Uniaxial grids are used to reinforce the soil in horizontal or oriental directions and biaxial grids do the reinforcement in both directions.

Features and advantages of the stabilized geogrids:
1 - Reinforcement of soft soil foundations and ground deformation control during sudden changes
2 - Three-dimensional texture of it increases the tensile and shear strength of the soil
On the roads with constant axial loads, locking of the soil aggregate with geogrid increases the strength.
3 - In combination with a geotextile, it prevents the different aggregate soil to be mixed in road pavements and stabilizes the aggregation properties.
4 – Stabilization of the slopes and preventing soil erosion
5 - Easy installation, time-saving and reduces maintenance costs
6 - High flexibility even in cold weather
7 - Lightweight
8 - In combination with concrete viewings, there is no need to piles and retaining concrete wall.
19 - High resistance to chemical environment
10 - Reducing the amount of soil application in road construction
11 - Excellent long term treatment due to down creep
12 – Coating on the grid, increases the resistance of it against mechanical damages and ultraviolet sun rays.

Applications of stabilized geogrids:
- Reinforcing the soil in railways
- Reinforcing the soil in road pavements
- A flexible system in reinforced soil walls
- bearing or non-load bearing walls coolie in bridges
- Reinforcing soil for viewing of different concrete systems
- Retaining walls in various trenches
- Coastal walls
- Walls of the ramps in non-coplanar injunctions
- Reinforcing steeps and vegetation in steep slopes
- Protection of steep surfaces of the canals
